An immediate priority was identified to build “a more inclusive and respectful culture where all staff feel valued, recognised and have equal access to opportunities for career development”
In 2018, Voice Project conducted a staff engagement survey at Trinity Grammar School to help incoming Head Master Tim Bowden familiarise with the school community. The survey indicated that the experience of being a female employee of the school was very different to the experience of being a male employee. An immediate priority was identified to build “a more inclusive and respectful culture where all staff feel valued, recognised and have equal access to opportunities for career development”.
Voice Project subsequently conducted focus groups to clarify the gender diversity issues emerging from the survey, and to identify solutions to support a more inclusive and fair work environment for women at Trinity. A detailed report and recommendations were provided to the Head Master, who has deeply engaged with the issue and embarked on a culture change program. He presented the story of the discoveries, the school’s responses, and his attempts to change the school culture at the 2019 AHISA Biennial Conference in Perth.
